“Who is a wise person? Who knows the solution to a problem? A person’s wisdom brightens his appearance and softens his harsh countenance.” --Ecclesiastes 8:1
This quote has both personal and practical implications and embodies my life’s pursuit. Practically – and in business - when people find real answers to problems, the discovery brings joy and relief. Personally, when a person finds true wisdom, he or she finds meaning and purpose.
My professional pursuits first led me into business education. I received both my undergraduate degree and my MBA in business finance. For quite a number of years, I worked in corporate finance for several large and small firms. Eventually I became the Controller for a high-tech manufacturing company and began to realize that I wanted to transition from the corporate world into a professional context where I could more directly apply my knowledge. I considered earning my PhD in Finance but soon realized that public accounting was a much better fit and would allow me to start a firm and work with small to medium sized business clients directly.
I started Gheen & Co., CPA, LLC in 2010. From the beginning, our emphasis has been on small to medium sized service-based businesses that we can serve with a system of tax planning, business planning, and advisory services. We have been diligent – passionate - about applying technology to the accounting and tax industry and have become a model firm of the future. I greatly enjoy seeing our employees grow and develop and am passionate about perfecting the system we have created, which serves both our employees and clients so well.
My wife and I have been married since 2002. We have four kids: three boys and a girl. We work diligently with them, just like I work to find solutions and improve life for our clients, employees, and myself. I am a life-long learner, a scholar, a Christ-follower. I love being outdoors during all four seasons of the year in central New York State. I am a reader. I am an avid rower – both indoor and outdoor. I greatly enjoy tackling the challenges of personal and professional life and helping people around me grow, develop, and flourish in every possible way.

"Passion is the log that keeps the fire of purpose blazing." - Oprah Winfrey
At the start of my career, I didn't envision my role within the accounting and tax industry to be as diverse and rewarding as it has become. Working with small business owners was the catalyst that kindled an unexpected passion within my professional career. I strive to not only address my clients' accounting needs but to get to know their business, learn who they are as individuals, not just as business professionals, and discover their priorities and goals. Taking this comprehensive, more holistic, approach to our engagement enables me to not only serve clients as an accountant, but as an advisor, a coach, and a friend.
I began my academic journey at Northern Michigan University, where I completed my undergraduate degree in Accounting/Corporate Finance. Soon after graduation, I successfully passed the CPA exam. Learning has been a lifelong passion of mine, and over the past seven years, I've completed two Master of Science degrees, one in Accounting at Southern New Hampshire University and another in Taxation through the Denver University Sturm College of Law. My accumulated knowledge and industry experience enable me to guide small business owners through the complexities of tax compliance and work with them to establish a strong, dynamic financial foundation that will help them achieve long-term success.
As the longest tenured employee at Gheen & Co., CPA, I've had the pleasure of establishing long-term working relationships with clients. My team and I work proactively with clients throughout the year and strive to foster collaboration and open communication on a regular basis. My unique strengths lie in designing and implementing Advanced Tax Plans, facilitating entity restructuring and buy/sell agreements, and managing my team to ensure all clients enjoy the maximum value our services can offer.
When I'm not working, I enjoy spending time with my husband, daughter, and our two dogs. After living abroad for three years, I'm an avid traveler; I always have my passport handy and am eager to add to my worldwide adventures.

Jessica Adams, Practice Manager
My passion has always been working with and helping people, both personally and professionally. This desire inspired my academic journey which led me to earn my master’s degree in clinical psychology. With my degree in hand, I landed in a variety of roles and settings including others’ homes, classrooms, offices, and even the great outdoors, with the goal of helping others grow and thrive. During this time, I have worked independently as well as collaboratively, enjoying leading as well as partnering with teams.
At Gheen & Co., CPA, LLC, I have been able to use my academic success, experience, and interpersonal skills to contribute to an innovative and dynamic team. I have the unique role of being able to be a part of and experience processes unfold from start to finish, whether it be through new client sales and onboarding to hiring and onboarding new staff to the creation and implementation of standard operating procedures. This position allows me the opportunity to be part of the high value relationships we bring to our clients as well as being part of creating a positive work culture with a focus on the personal and professional growth of staff in the firm.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, outdoor adventures, baking (with and without my kids) and getting lost in a good book.

Mia DiMarco, Administrative Assistant
I have always been drawn to the structure and clarity that numbers provide, so pursuing a career in accounting felt like a natural fit. I find myself lucky that I get to immerse myself in the world of finance and accounting every day. I have a bachelor’s degree in finance and accounting from Loyola University New Orleans, class of 2024. I am currently working toward earning my CPA license and continuing to deepen my knowledge in the field. I am always eager to learn more about the evolving world of finance and accounting and am happy to be doing so with Gheen & Co., CPA.

Madeline Hofferber, CPA, Client Manager
One of the things I hear most often when I tell people what I do for is a living is “You’re an accountant? I could never do that, nor would I want to.” And I get that – someone needs to read and interpret all the thousands of pages of changes in tax law and regulation, and it isn’t for everyone. When I decided to study accounting in college, I did so because numbers and rules made sense to me. But what I didn’t expect when I got into public accounting over a decade ago was that it would be such a thorough examination of how people work. The accountant stereotype often depicts someone who is boring or uncreative or impersonal, but I’ve found public accounting to be the exact opposite of that. Having worked primarily throughout my career with small business owners, I get to see what it takes to run a business, from both a nuts-and-bolts technical perspective and from the much more personal standpoint of being part of someone’s dream. I know that the trust we receive as accountants to help support such a key aspect of someone’s life is not something to be taken lightly. Public accounting, to me, is less about dry numbers and more about the people behind them. Learning who people are, what they do, the industries they work in, are all things that keep my heart engaged in this line of work, just as much as understanding numbers and rules keeps my mind sharp.
Outside of work, I love being outside, cooking from scratch, and exploring new places whether through travel or books. My two young children are my constant companions in those things; my goal as a mother is to teach them that how we live our days is how we live our lives, so let’s be curious and determined and experience all life has to offer.

Sydney Axford, EA, Client Manager
When I graduated from Ferris State University with my bachelor's in Criminal Justice, the last place I thought I would develop a career with was a CPA firm. The career change I made early on has proven to be one of my best decisions, and Gheen & Co has been the driving factor behind my growth personally and professionally. My goal has always been to help people and the diverse opportunities within Gheen & Co has allowed me to do so. Coming from a small business family has also allowed me to truly grasp the importance of small business and entrepreneurship. I am looking forward to continuing working with clients as motivated as I am to help grow and save!
When I’m off the clock, my husband and I enjoy almost all things the Northern Michigan outdoors has to offer. Between boating, fishing, ORV riding, snowmobiling, and hunting, we enjoy staying busy…and our trusty dogs Ozzy and Sam are never far behind.

Mark Tuggle, PhD, EA, Client Manager
"Wisdom is knowing what to do next, skill is knowing how to do it, and virtue is doing it." --David Star Jordan
I love this quote because it speaks directly to what I have attempted throughout my 30+ years of organizational leadership – help people see what needs to be done, coach them on how to do it, and encourage them to follow through with it. I have held leadership positions in the military, as an Army officer; in the non-profit sector, both as a staff and board member; and in the for-profit world, as a business owner, consultant, and employee. I am an experienced learning facilitator and speaker. I am an Enrolled Agent and have a Ph.D. in Organizational Leadership with a Human Resource Development concentration.
At Gheen & Co., CPA I leverage my knowledge, skills, and experience to help ensure my clients receive the best tax and accounting advice and services possible. In addition, whenever possible, I serve as a business growth consultant to them. I thoroughly enjoy the challenge of leading a globally distributed team and helping to maintain a healthy culture and “workplace” even though we do not operate in a traditional office setting.
When I am not at work, I enjoy walking my dogs, loving on my grandkids, volunteering at my church, and reading books with my wife.

Nia Gonzales-Madera, EA, Client Manager
I started my accounting career from the ground level, and it immediately sparked a passion to help others navigate the complexity of taxes. After specializing in the technical details of accounting and tax early in my career, I found fulfilment in building meaningful relationships to focus on coaching clients through their various financial needs and tax strategies. My favorite part is helping businesses understand that there is more to accounting than filing returns. Accounting can play an integral part in the longevity and success of a business, and I hope to deliver that help to my clients.
Outside of work, I thoroughly enjoy living in the PNW where I can enjoy hiking the beautiful scenery with my son and daughter. I’m dedicated to growing my faith daily, reading, cooking and exercising. Any spontaneous family adventures in making cherished memories also brings me joy.

Sheila Eichelberger, CPA, Senior Production Manager
Before coming to Gheen & Co., CPA, I was a tax manager at Ronald Blue & Co. CPAs. With over 25 years of experience working in public and private accounting, I specialize in multi-state business taxes as well as not-for-profit business requirements, having worked with large publicly traded companies as well as multi-million-dollar not-for-profit organizations. At the firm, I serve clients through tax compliance filings and planning. A member of the AICPA and former Tax Committee Co-Chair for the Pennsylvania Institute of CPAs, I partner with my team at Gheen & Co. to simplify our clients’ taxes and overcome financial distractions so that they can focus on their mission.

“Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all.”
This philosophy defines me as a risk taker. I started my career with a permanent and regular status in a government agency, but driven by a passion for making a difference, I sought new opportunities to step outside of my comfort zone in pursuit of a better world. I then found Gheen and Co., CPA, LLC. I enjoy working with the firm because of the positive team environment, supportive leadership, and opportunities for growth. Additionally, I have found the challenge and inspiration from US taxation has led me to a fulfilling work experience.
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my husband and two kids, swimming, going to the mall, watching movies, baking, and sight-seeing.

“Blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him.” - Jeremiah 17:7
Seeking wisdom and guidance from the Lord is essential, as is finding mentors and principles that resonate with you.
My first job was during the pandemic as an online English teacher for Chinese and Japanese students—quite a shift from my accounting degree. At the same time, I assisted with my family's small sari-sari store. Through these experiences, I discovered my true passion: helping small businesses grow and becoming their trusted accountant. I began my career as an international accountant at a Dubai-based firm, and thanks to a chance opportunity, I found my way to Gheen & Co.
I am confident in my ability and integrity to deliver 101% of what I am capable of, and Gheen & Co. is committed to easing their clients' business responsibilities by providing efficient, tailored solutions.
In my free time, I enjoy reading, playing mobile games, and watching anime and dramas. These activities help me unwind and provide me with fresh perspectives.

Outside of work, I love spending time with my kids, trying new recipes, and unwinding with a good show on Netflix.
